Customs and SPS Administrations of CEFTA Learn about Integrated Border Management from Best Practices in Latvia

September 24, 2019

Customs and SPS Administrations’ officials from CEFTA Parties have participated in a study visit to Riga and Daugavpils in Latvia, 17-19 September 2019. The study visit aimed at sharing knowledge about integrated border management practices of EU countries with external EU land borders. The examples from Riga authorities have shown the EU regulation in this area, as well as the application in practice. The aim of the visit was to help the respective agencies enhance their capacities to improve intra-agency cooperation, particularly cooperation between Customs and other inspections at and outside the border crossing points.

This visit provided for peer learning and sharing first-hand experience between Latvia and CEFTA Parties in border management procedures and integrated risk management. The study visit encompassed a three-day highly specialized training on border procedures and integrated risk management with practical demonstrations and activities performed on the spot – at border crossing points with Belarus.
