CEFTA is a building block on the EU integration path

The European Commission delegation headed by its Director Genoveva Ruiz Calavera visited CEFTA Secretariat in Brussels.

Director Ruiz Calavera congratulated the CEFTA Secretariat for its role in ensuring the adoption of important decisions in Tirana last month that will further facilitate trade in goods and services in the region. She emphasised the fact that CEFTA successful implementation is a legal obligation enshrined in each SAA, and therefore an essential element of EU’s strategic priorities for the region. She acknowledged the efforts the CEFTA Secretariat has been investing in the processes and reaffirmed that the EC will stay a committed to support Secretariat’s future endeavours.

The Director of the CEFTA Secretariat Emir Djikic presented the planned activities and thanked for the continuous support the EC has been providing. He reiterated the CEFTA Secretariat’s commitment to full implementation of CEFTA, in particular through fostering harmonisation of the CEFTA Parties legislation with the EU acquis. The two agreed that regional economic integration is key to foster economic development of the region and EU accession path.
