The CEFTA Parties have discussed EU Authorised Economic Operator concept in Skopje on 4-5 April 2013. The workshop, organised in cooperation with TAIEX, was part of the workshop of the Macedonian Chairmanship of CEFTA Subcommittee on Customs and Rules of Origin. There were three delegates by CEFTA Party present during the meeting including one representative from the chambers of every CEFTA Party. During the workshop, the experts from the Austrian, Dutch and UK Customs Administrations have not only presented the general framework of WCO Safe Standards and EU legislation on AEO, but also practicalities regarding the AEO application process in the EU and what are things to be done by customs authorities and operators to have the implementation of AEO programme started. Lastly, the discussion was held about the ways and possibilities of establishing a CEFTA AEO programme in compliance with EU acquis including both security and safety, and customs compliance with a view to trade facilitation in CEFTA Region. A number of recommendations have been drafted by the workshop which are to be submitted to the CEFTA Customs Risk Management Working Group and thereafter, CEFTA Subcommittee on Customs and Rules of Origin for their approval.
